Grizzle, as it is know, is a testament to how little necromancer actually know about the forces they meddle in. The project originated at the necromancer collage of Bedlam, run by the bloodletter's guild of umbra. It was an attempt to duplicate a some what uncommon demonic creation of considerable strength, know as the interred grizzle. The theory is similar to that of a flesh golem, flesh is harvested and grafted together to specifications. the process of animation is some what complicated, requiring massive am outs of necrotic energy as compared to most animated dead, a large infusion of demonic corruption, and a spell of binding. "Natural" grizzles are bound to will of the demon from which their corruption came, usually Chief Pyromaxus. The necrotic energy and corruption coalesce to form something similar to a "necro elemental" inside the flesh. This semi sentient beast is then given commands from the demon who created it, or the coven to which it was bound. It is not currently know how the bloodletter's lost control of their monstrosity, but i theorize it was one of two ways. Either their spells of binding could not find purchase on the beasts lack of soul remains an undead usually possesses, or that the demonic essence in the corruption was beyond their control. If the case is the latter, the creature is likely under the control of the Chief, which would be as disastrous as the chief's intentions.
This abomination puts up an admirable fight. While wielding no magic or anything of that sort, it is not the first such construct forged in beldam judging from the ones in the crypt basement, and is quite powerful. I am not sure, but i am rather sure i packs devastating poisons as well, in addition to it's acid attacks. This acid seems to be demonic in nature, and causes most anything it touches to burst into flames, even metal and leather, sometimes even wood or bone. Despite it's many nauseating special abilities, the most direct threat the grizzle poses is a physical one, by virtue of it's tremendous strength. The creature is a necrotic construct, being forged without the remnants of a soul, is utterly immune to undead slayer. Pack high quality armour much durability. Between the boiling acid and the flayed bones, this fight is very hard on an adventurer's gear and weapons. larger species of dragons show prodigious resistance to the acid, and make effective targets for the grizzle. Any melee unit brave or foolish (probably foolish) enough to challenge the abomination directly will quickly have their gear reduced to a puddle of sludge, or close to it.
As with the Lady Melisande, This battle is a "tank and spank" but it is anything but simple. The monstrosity is fought in the library tower in the underground campus of bedlam. It has 2 levels, a lower entrance area, and the library proper with it's many books, shelves, and desks. The creature's first move is always an unholy scream from the dismembered elk voice box. This debuff slows casting, attacking, and movement a considerable amount, and is almost constantly in effect. After seeing the beast plodding about slowly, one may have delusions of outrunning it. Dispel them now, as i have personally seen the beast overtake even mounted units. Given all the obstructions in the library, and the creature's other favored attack, this makes the fight rough. As mentioned, the creature is adorned with many unhealed or infected wounds, oozing sores, and various pustules, and it is surrounded by a pool of caustic acid where ever it goes. The damage this inflicts is catastrophic to all but the most fire resistant units, whenever this happens, all melee units should scatter and all pets without natural resistances to this should be recalled. This also damages equipment considerably, so bring armor in good condition or else. This is the easiest way to lose the fight. If the tamers/warriors are not paying attention, you can have a death on your hands in seconds. The continuous damage makes last long enough to keep the beast occupied long enough to take serious damage difficult. Worse yet, when it's prey scatters, the creature almost inevitably changes targets, sometimes picking a non melee unit. The slowing taken into account, if it chooses a target not ready for it's advance, death is almost inevitable.
The successful grizzle hunt is one of life's many challenges that sounds simple, and is quite the opposite. The Procedure is as follows: the beast is lured into the library proper, and lead to an area with a decent line of site, and room to swap out the tanks when needed. As fore mentioned, it is quite unlikely that any unit will be able to endure the blazing mire at the beast's feet for long enough to slay the creature. The most convenient way around this is to cycle multiple tank units, reliving them as they need healing. When the tank losses his/her gall, all the non-tanks must stop any damage, and the next tank(s) must follow the creature step for step. Those DPS (Damage Per Second) units who do not cease damage face one of two, equal gruesome fates: A die languishing in a poll of acid, or B, be tracked down and slain by the beast. There is a space of about second where everyone should be moving away from the grizzle. At this point, a number of things should happen IN ORDER. Firstly, all melee should return to the target whilst the tamers should order their pets to attack once more. After the monstrous interred grizzle is safely engaged, DPS can resume. Now, everyone has to move to a position in which they can both attack and escape at a moments notice. After a few tense repartitions of this, the grizzle will begin to weaken. Resilient as it may be, the grizzle is not invincible, and after some damage, its internal necrotic energy network will begin to deteriorate. A shame, as the creature begins to act progressively more erratic as this continues. While theoretical the creature could sustain an infinite amount of damage as long as it's necrotic network remains intact, there is a point where it's flesh refuses to hold together any longer, and it resumes it's original form: a pile of dismembered limbs on the floor. IMPORTANT. After disintegration, the creature's various internal fluids will pour out onto the floor. Unless you wish to share it's fate, melee units should scatter, and all party members should refrain from looting. After the acid drys, the creature, still partially unlive , will continue to rile and twitch as if it still had..some faint hope of destroying it's prey. It is safe, if disturbing, to loot the beast at this time. A pity the gold it drops never covers the cost to repair your arms. Do keep in mind, This is a hunt for the...faint, of heart.
