Well we went on a hunt for the Slasher of Veils after the meeting last night. Sev has tasked me with arranging/guiding a this hunt as my task for Knight. But, killing this beast is not enough, Sev wants this done with no deaths. I think this can be done, but will take very capable characters and a little luck. Here is what the hunt is like:
1) Expect a 45 minute melee with this beast, it has 300,000 hit points. No direct contact is recommended; pets will die, warriors forget it.
2) Expect a lot of magic being casted with 10,000 mana. However, most of it's spells are fairly minor; clumsy, weakness, etc. However, it occassionally casts a very intere3sting looking magic arrow that does 99 points of damage. Monzie, with all 70s resist and 109 HPs survived, others did not.
3) The SoV growls and freezes everyone. however, unless you are very close you are usually safe. Magic imbued rocks fall to the ground. Pick these up, dbl click and target the SoV. This does between 125 and 200 points of damage.
Here are the character types that worked against the SoV:
1) Mystics - These are the key. Stay in stone form for the resist. Cast Rissing Colossus. Nether Cyclone was tried, its results are not truly known. A huge bonus for mystics, and the party, is that healing stones can be used while frozen. Another huge bonus is that the SoV moves slow and does not chase characters (too much) when it has 3 or 4 RCs on it.
2) Mages - EVs get dispelled quickly and cast only 2 to 4 points of damage per strike. Flame Strike did 28 points of damage. Energy Bolts did 19. Based on mana cost EBs are by far the best spell to use. Monzie switched to these about 1/2 way through the hunt and received one of three arties for damage.
3) Archers - This seemed to work, but I do not know how much damage they caused.
I think that a successful hunt (no deaths except for the SoV) would require at least eight characters with four being mystics. All characters should have 70s resist. All characters should reserve mana for quick heals, and maintain a safe distance.
