Fairly easy, very profitable, and rarely camped. Until after this post that is.
Why hunt Coil? 2.5K per kill, great loot for unraveling, great loot period, named armor and artifacts. I have received more artifacts from Coil on a per kill basis than any other monster. In addition, it is much slower than paragons.
Coil is a 'Boss' Silver Serpant that can be found in the Stygian Abyss and in the Blighted Grove. I hunt this beast in the Stygian Abyss.
There are three primary spawning areas. At the north/west end of the passage (approx. 30%), at the south/east end of the passage near the ruins (approx. 60%), and the corridor to the skeletal dragon (approx 10%).
Although this is an monster huntable by any character I recommend a Mystic. To hunt this area with a mystic:
You need only four spells: Cleansing Winds (CW), Eagle strike (ES), Rissing Colossus (RC), and Mass sleep (MS). You will also need a fully charged healing stone.
When you arive use eagle strike to kill off the critters that follow you in to this area. snakes, lava snakes, giant serpants, and possibly a coral snake. If Coil is present use MS on it while you clear other spawn. Continue to use ES to kill snakes as they spawn.
If you are bitten by these lesser spawn use CW to remove the poison. You may fail once or twice if bitten by a coral snake. But they are rare and you should still survive. Save the healing stone for coil bites.
Use MS on Coil when his attention turns towards you. Use RC to kill Coil. If you have the mana, use ES on Coil to assist the RC. In this way you can kill Coil with one RC, otherwise it takes two.
If you are bitten by Coil you have a chance at normal damage, bleeding wound, or poisin. If poisoned your only hope is the healing stone or healing (you have to be fast and good). Potions and petals seem useless. Do not expect the healing stone to work on the first try; double click the stone and immediately lay on the last object macro. It is not uncommon to take up to 5 attempts to cure the poison. Death is about 1 in 5 bites. Remeber to cast a fresh HS after any use. You do not want the message that the HS lacks sufficient power.
For Gargs there is a convenient escape area in the hills.
