Oh my, oh my, where do we start??
First lets discus what character will be training up Wrestling on. I highly recommend that
you train up Wrestling on a Dexer, and then Stone it onto your Mage. With high dex, you
will swing your fists VERY fast, and with any luck you may even swing at max swing speed
without any +swing speed items You will probably raise Wrestling a LOT faster on a
dexer then you would on a Mage. This is pretty basic information, but is still worth
mentioning I am not sure if having the Parrying skill and a shield on your Dexer would
be beneficial or harmful to your Wrestlers Skill-Gain rate, but I do know that if you do
have Parrying and a shield on them it will be all the harder for monsters to kill your
Wrestler Also, if you've been looking to raise up Parrying for a character, this is a
great way to do it! Though sheep probably work just as well and aren't so dangerous
Now lets talk about "where and what" you'll be training at/on.
-First you'll go to New Haven. Assuming that you are training up a Wrestling on a Dexer
that you have already fully made, you take 400 gold and go straight to the Wrestling
Skill-Training Quest Giver and buy the first 40 points of Wrestling. AFTER you buy the
first 40 points of Wrestling, then you should accept his Wrestling Skill-Training Quest.
You can only buy Skill-Training from an NPC if you aren't on any of the Skill-Training
Quests, so if you can't buy Wrestling Training, you'll need to quit any Haven-based
Skill-Training Quests that you are on, and then buy the points. The Wrestling Skill-
Training Quest will accelerate your skill gains until you reach 50% Wrestling, at which
time you will be notified that your Skill-Training Quest is complete.
(Note, if you are planning to work Wrestling on a new or "Unfinished" Dexer, you should
consult some sort of "how to create a character" guide for good advice on Skill-Training )
-Once you've finished your business in New Haven, and once you have a good suit of gear for
Wrestling Training, it's time to go out and Train =) Now, even though with the right
gear you can go straight to Shame and train up on Earthies, that is not a very good idea.
To get optimal Wrestling gains, you should be wrestling against foes with between 10-20
points higher wrestling then you have. Earthies have an average of 80 wrestling, and that
is too high to give you dependable gains when you're just getting started at 40-50%
Believe me, I fought tons of Earthies and even though I hit them pretty often, my gains
barely moved. Instead you'll probably want to start at a place like Despise, and battle
with Lizard Men Trust me, Your Wrestling will SKYROCKET! Once you've gotten your
Wrestling higher, then you can start thinking about Shame and Earthies Now, I'm not
sure exactly what to train on after earth elementals. My guess would be Dull Copper
Elementals, because I'm fairly sure that they 1, have higher wrestling then Earthies,
2, they do all physical damage just like Lizard Men and Earthies, and 3, I know there are
some areas in Shame where only Dull Copper Elementals appear. Where to go to further train
up Wrestling after that point I have no idea at this point in time ;P
Now that you know what kind of character and what monsters/locations I've recommended you
train your Wrestling up with, lets talk about the Gear you'll be wanting to wear. For the
monsters I've recommended training against, you really only need physical resist to fight
them. This is pretty easy to do, just put on a few Dull Copper pieces But in addition
to the 70 phys resist, you'll also want as much Hit Point Regeneration as you could get;
and if possible you should also try and get as much +Hit Chance and +Defense Chance as you
can; they both cap at 45%. Dexterity is also good to have, but the cap can vary. After
you are through with Lizard Men and Earth/Dull-Copper Elementals, whatever monsters you
decide to fight next to train up your Wrestling, you might need an all 70s resist suit if
it is a spell-casting monster type. But for Wrestling Skill-Training up to that point,
having an all 70s suit may be a bit overkill on the resists Especially if there is
room for more HP Regen and +Hit/Def chance. Oh, and avoiding Reflect Physical Damage
and Damage Increases where possible may be wise. You do want your opponent to stay alive
longer so you get more gains from them
Points of advice:
There are 2 reasons why I recommend going to Despise to fight Lizard Men and Shame to
fight Elementals.
1, in these locations and against these foes you only need phys resist which means you
have a good deal of "extra space" to get in max +hit/def chance and plenty of +HP Regen
2, In these locations LOTS of these guys spawn, and automatically attack
you. If you've got enough Phys Resist and +HP Regen, you don't need to pay a lot of
attention to your character, they just defend themselves as they are constantly attacked
If you like you can also put your character into a corner where only one or two monsters
are able to attack you at a time, so you aren't really in danger of being overwhelmed.
In theory you could "Park" your Wrestler down in a good spot in Despise or Shame, and you
really wouldn't need to pay much attention to them. As long as you've got max phys resist
and enough HP Regen, you could leave your guy there to fight while you do other stuff,
like writing stuff on the forums etc Though, you would probably get best gains if you
kept an eye on your wrestler, and rounded up a new crowd of Lizard Men / Earthies whenever
your character thinned out their ranks too much
NOTE- Remember not to leave your character unattended. I believe that eventually they
will just time out if you do, but it's more just the matter of not leaving your character
unattended as you could get in trouble if you are doing skill-training while afk
Another Note- Assuming that you already have a Dexer, so you would want them
to have the good faction gear etc., then you should look into the Mace and Shield
Reading Glasses. Having this item equipped will give even your wrestling a chance to
lower the opponents chance to dodge by 25%. Very nice for wrestling gains, since you
usually only get a gain when you actually HIT an opponent ;D
Here is a list of items that you may want to keep in mind as you put together your
Wrestling Training Suit. Remember, your goal should be to create a suit that you can
easily afford that has 70 Physical Resist, very high Hit Point Regeneration, and as much
+Defense Chance, +Hit Chance and Dex as you can, the max Hit/Def Chance cap is +45% and the
max Dex being 150. REMEMBER, you do not NEED to get special items in all your gear slots.
You can always use either High Physical Resist pieces (like Dull Copper) or High HP Regen
pieces (like Bloodwood) =) The listed items are just some suggested pieces to look at
while putting together your Wrestling Training Suit
--HEAD
*MACE AND SHIELD READING GLASSES, Faction- 30% Hit Lower Defense, BIG Resists!
This item lets even your wrestling hits
lower your foe's chance to defend by 25%.
Since your blows usually have to hit to
give you gains, having this piece on is
VERY nice =D
ANCIENT SAMURAI HELM- +15% Def Chance and good resists
AEGIS OF GRACE- +20% Def Chance, decent resists
FOLDED STEEL READING GLASSES, Faction- +25% Def Chance, decent resists (Reg has 15% Def )
--NECK
JACKAL'S COLLAR- 15 Dex, 2 HP Regen, Usually considered the best Neck for a Dexer to own
VOICE OF THE FALLEN KING- 5 HP Regen
--CHEST
HEART OF THE LION, Faction or Reg- +15% Def Chance and good resists (better on Faction one)
VIOLATE COURAGE- +15% Def Chance with decent resists, not as good as Faction HEART OF THE LION
--ARMS
--GLOVES
STORMGRIP, Faction- gives +10% hit chance (Regular Stormgrip has no +Hit Chance)
GAUNTLETS OF ANGER REPLICA- +10% Def Chance, 2 HP Regen
--LEGS
FEY LEGGINGS, Faction- +20% Def Chance, decent resists on Faction one
--RING
RING- Having a Ring with both +10 Hit Chance and +10% Def Chance would be very nice
RING OF THE VILE, Faction- +25% Hit Chance, 8 Dex, very nice =) (Reg only 15% costs more )
--BRACELET
BRACELET OF HEALTH- 10 HP Regen (Best HP Regen piece in all of UO)
--TRINKET
CONJURERS TRINKET- gives +10% hit chance, 2 HP Regen (I recommend all Dexers own one anyway)
A PRIMAR ON ARMS DAMAGE REMOVAL, Faction- +10% Hit Chance, 2 HP Regen (cheaper then Conjure)
--SHIELD
ORDER SHIELD REPLICA, Faction - +15% Hit Chance AND +15% Def Chance. If your dexer
is going to use a shield anyway, this is not a bad
item to own =) (Faction one is cheaper and better)
SHIELD OF INVULNERABILITY- +15% Def Chance
SHIELD- If you have or can easily get a shield with +Hit Chance and +Def Chance, it'd be
--OTHER
CRIMSON CINCTURE, Faction- 2 HP Regen, 10 Dex (more Dex then Regular one, and cheaper)
Those are all the special items I'd recommend considering. However, there are more items,
and faction items, that do raise your +Hit Chance and +Def Chance. These items would not
be my first picks, but other players may like them more then I do I'd especially look
through them if you are still short on +Hit Chance or +Def Chance. Also, you may be
especially interested in these items if you were already planning to own one or more of
them for your Dexer anyway, and maybe you could consider using them as part of your
Wrestling Training Suit
KASA OF The RAJ-IN, Faction- +10% Def Chance on Faction one, both Fac/Reg have good resists
Head
HUNTERS HEADDRESS, Faction- +15% Hit Chance and 8 Dex, Faction is cheaper + more resists
Head
SPIRIT OF THE TOTEM, Faction- +15% hit chance, 20 Str, Faction cheaper + more resists
Head
LEGGINGS OF BANE- +20% Hit Chance
Legs
Other Skills/Pieces/Spells that you may find useful in Wrestling Training, or any weapons
training, but they are not necessary-
Here's a little detail that actually might be helpful, but is probably still unnecessary.
If you give a character 70 or so Necromancy, you can use the Horrific Beast Necromancy
Spell. This spell gives like 10 or 20 HP Regen, so it could be a pretty nice spell to use!
However, you don't NEED the spell, since it's easy enough to get the needed HP Regen to
train up Wrestling without this Necro Spell ;P
With enough Dex, you will probably max out your swing speed. But there are a few other
tricks you can use to boost your swing speed if you need:
Divine Fury will temporarily raise your Swing Speed and Hit Chance. The spell also
lowers your Defense Chance and increases the damage you'll take if hit. Spell does not
last that long and will need to be recast every 10-22 seconds based on Karma.
The Tokuno Minor Artifact head piece, Daimyo's Helm, that raises your Swing Speed 10%
There is also the Assassins armor set, a 4 piece suit hands, arms, chest, legs and each
piece gives 5% swing speed increase.
There is also the Spellweaving spell Reaper Form, which increases your Swing Speed 10%.
AGAIN, if you have enough Dex you will probably max your swing speed anyway, so NONE of
these pieces/spells should be necessary
Well, I hope that my suggestions for Wrestling Skill-Training have been helpful.
