Most of us have been in guilds over the years, and are very familiar with the in game chat set up.
But you'd be surprised just how many have avoided being in any guilds over the years! So this post will detail how to use all of the many chat features in the game.
NOTE:This is for those that play Classic 2d client!!!!
UO Global Chat: type ,
This is the new chat system in the game, and you do not need to be guilded or allied with anyone to use it. You change chat rooms via the "Chat" option from your UO toolbar at the top. You can create your own channels as well. Our official channel is Wolf Riders. (for those in the alliance, if you do not see a current Wolf Rider channel, please make one)
While this game feature can be very useful, it is NOT secure, and you are not able to see who is in the channel with you. Also be aware of massive amounts of trash talk in the more populated channels.
Guild Chat: type \
This allows to you to speak ONLY with those members of your guild.
Alliance Chat: type shift + \
This allows you to speak with anyone allied with your guild.
Emote: type shift + ; with a space after
Emoting is used to show actions, such as a laugh instead of "lol"
Whisper: type ; with a space after
When you whisper in game, only players standing next to you, will be able to see what you say. I often use this option for macros for pets and the like.
There is also a way to "Yell" in game, but I have no idea what the command is or if it's actually useful for anything.

I could be wrong.) Emote: Type /e <spacebar>
